International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8th, 2007. It is
a day which both marks the struggle for women to be deemed equal in all
aspects of society- and celebrates the fantastic progress which has been
made to date.
In our affluent western society - it is easy to feel as though our mothers and grandmothers have won the fight. We are entitled to equal pay; we do have the opportunity and choices to embark on careers of our dreams. We can have our job, home, family, gym membership, day spa, cleaner, lunch with friends. We must remember that a truly emancipated person is able to move freely in the world, acknowledge his or her rights and responsibilities, and have a foothold on the earth, which is equal to her friend, neighbour or partner in both a physical and psychological sense. At Escape4Girls, we acknowledge that women all over the world are still struggling for that freedom - remember the power of women when they are drawn together - and celebrate it! Enjoy reading about what is on in Brisbane Theatre at the moment as well as some ways to slow your life down and make sure you are taking time to relax (and if you or anyone you know is getting married - send on our fantastic March special)
